Pat Holloway is Professor Emerita of Horticulture at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She conducted horticultural research in Fairbanks for more than 30 years on a diversity of crops, especially Alaska wild berries and native plant propagation. Her research with peonies provided the foundation for the cut flower industry in Alaska. Presently, she is a horticultural consultant for the peony industry and book publisher through her company, A.F. Farmer, LLC.
Bob Van Valdhuizen
Bob Van Veldhuizen is a semi-retired agronomist with the UAF Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. He started working with Dr. Don Dinkel in the Horticulture Program at the Fairbanks Experiment Farm in 1970. In 1980 he was transferred to the Agronomy Program working with Dr. Frank Wooding, then Dr. Charlie Knight and finally Dr. Mingchu Zhang. As an agronomist he has conducted research in soils, soil nutrient management and crop breeding and variety selections throughout the state of Alaska. Part of the soil nutrient research has been done in cooperation with Dr. Pat Holloway on developing a nutrient - fertilization requirements for peonies in Alaska. He also developed the laboratory manual and taught undergraduate and graduate level classes in soils laboratory methods for the Natural Resources Management Program at UAF. Since 2016 he has been semi-retired working summers for the Agronomy Program based out of the Matanuska Experiment Farm. He is the author of the book "Alaska's Agricultural Soils Sampling and Interpretation of Test Results", an easy to understand soils manual for gardeners, growers and farmers in Alaska.
